Jeffrey as a Child
Dahmer grew up in a home where his mom was the one who worked while his dad was going to school perusing a degree in chemistry.
Although Dahmer was bragged about as an infant and toddler by both
parents,
his mother was known to be tense, greedy for attention, and
argumentative with both her husband and her neighbors. As Dahmer started
school his mom became ill staying at home requiring more and more
attention , the little attention his dad had left in between his studies
at school. Jeffrey began to be neglected by both parents and became a
very unsocial and inward child.

When he would find a dead animal he would bring it back to his house and dissect the corpses. One friend even remembers Dahmer storing parts of the animals in jars in the family shed in the back yard.

Interest in Preserving Bones
Dahmer's Father recalled a conversation one night over dinner after they had eaten chicken. Jeffrey asked his father what the chicken bones would do if soaked in bleach. At the time Dahmers father was more then glad to teach his son how to clean and preserve animal bones using techniques he had learned. His father believed it was because it was a science based interest that his son was having.

Psychiatrist
Psychiatrists battled back and forth on whether or not Dahmer was sane or not. In the end they decided he was not insane but "very sick" because dahmer showed real remorse for what he had done in his 150 page confession. Dahmer noted that while he was doing the unspeakable things to the dead bodies eating, mummifying them he knew it was wrong yet it aroused him. The Psychiatrist say that Dahmer didn't do the things he did to people because he didn't know what he was doing but because he enjoyed them both mentally and physically.
